Pact’s Kenyan Civil Society Strengthening Program (KCSSP) team is pleased to announce the release of the following two Requests for Applications (RFAs):

RFA #2008-DGL-1/Conf – Conflict prevention & Management focused program grants
This RFA will award up to 8 grants to CSOs working to forward programs in the following key areas:

  1. National-level and or community level and grass roots peace building activities, including possible media activities, in any or all of the epicentres worst hit by the post-election violence.
  2. Inter- and intra-community dialogue and reconciliation.
  3. Policy advocacy to achieve positive change in the peace policy environment in Kenya, with an emphasis on achieving political tolerance amongst communities.
  4. Advocacy against impunity to those who organized, funded, coordinated and or executed the post election violence.
  5. Technical assistance and information provision in partnership with governmental and other institutions with an interest or mandate of peace building and prevention of violence.

RFA #2008-DGL-2/Epp – Electoral and political processes grants
This RFA will award up to 9 grants to CSOs working to forward programs in four key areas:

  1. National-level advocacy to achieve positive policy, legal, and constitutional reforms in respect
    of governance institutions.
  2. Watch-dog, oversight, and monitoring of government performance on governance reforms, especially the implementation of mediation agreements and reforms to address any of the underlying causes of political conflict in Kenya.
  3. Research, technical assistance, and information provision in partnership with government entities, especially parliamentary committees, transitional justice machinery and investigatory bodies.
  4. Bringing groups together to dialogue and build consensus about issues needing to be addressed in the national reconciliation process.

A bidders’ conference will be held on March 12, 2008 at The Panafric Hotel, Nairobi for interested applicants who would like to obtain some more detailed explanation of the requirements of this RFA from Pact. Interested applicants should note that this is an optional event for which they will bear the costs of traveling to and from the venue. The RFAs provide prospective grant recipients with a fair opportunity to submit concept papers for funding.These awards will be administered under the Pact’s KCSSP Program funded by USAID.
