Our Objectives and Intermidiate Results

Pact, in collaboration with its partner, Pact Kenya, implements a range of grant making and institutional and technical capacity building activities focused on achieving the following intermediate results:

Improved leadership and governance of Kenyan CSOs:
Better staying power.KCSSP ensures that CSOs are able to identify and cultivate leadership and build the governance skills of existing and emerging directors and leaders in areas that are critical to forwarding CSO agendas. Improving CSO governance systems focuses on reinforcing the skills and attitudes needed for executive leaders such as Board Members, to envision and enact strategic and sustainability plans, embrace transparency, accountability, sound management, inter - organizational collaboration, and demonstrate strong political will to effect change within and outside of their organization.

Enhanced ability of CSOs to build and work within coalitions and speak with a shared voice:
This result ensures that key CSOs possess the organizational strength required to extend themselves effectively to larger coalitions as well as the knowledge and skills to conduct successful joint advocacy time-bound campaigns. Training in the advantages and challenges of advancing advocacy issues through CSO networks prepares CSOs for building and sustaining coalitions (Whether for one - off activities or long-term interventions). CSOs learn various techniques that serve the dual purposes of educating the public on relevant public reform efforts, and spurring participants to action around reform efforts. Grants may fund key activities to support coalition building or networking and or joint advocacy activities.

Improved quality and quantity of services delivered to CSO constituents
KCSSP provides mentoring for effective service delivery to generate sustained impact. Inputs under this activity include activity based grants for advocacy campaigns to guide their actions and time- bound plans for implementing their strategy. Relevant skills set may include campaign action planning, stakeholder analysis and mobilization, research, lobbying, conflict management and negotiation. As well as NRM planning, and nature focused business development services. All strategies include mechanisms for monitoring progress toward organizational goals, evaluating results and managing required course corrections.

Improved long term viability of CSOs
KCSSP helps CSOs examine and, if needed, develop sustainability strategies. Participants develop a foundation in proposal writing, fundraising, and partnership development, and other relevant strategies for diversification and cost recovery. KCSSP also helps CSOs address financial management issues such as governmental rules and regulations, indirect cost (overhead) issues, financial information needs and understanding the fiscal responsibilities policies and procedures within CSOs ensuring accountability and long term
organizational viability.
